BONG! Live At The Loft EP12…this one’s for Jersey! We’ve invited hometown favorite, Moruf (affectionately known as ‘Moo’) and his Jersey Klan to get wavy for a spot. We’ve also opened up the Loft aesthetics with our own personal feng shui for this episode, shuffling sofas, re-positioning lighting fixtures, and shifting wall art, all for a fresh new feel. Let’s see how it all holds up under the extreme activity that’s about to take place. Let’s get active, shall we?
Moruf is no stranger to the Loft, as you may remember him from TONE’s profile series interview, conducted shortly after the release of Moo’s thoughtful “Garden State Of Mind: Ready To Live” mixtape. Since then, the Irvington, NJ native of Nigerian parentage has been a regular attendee of the LATL shows. Tonight he brings his signature energy to our stage with his crew in tow, and backed by his guest band The Bennys. After the warm-up by fellow Jersey Klansman Jean aka OGM, Moruf sets into action with a combo of live renditions, slinging some mixtape gems and acappella verses. He keeps things cardiovascular throughout, before a considerably stylish group of onlookers, and caps it off with the heavily based anthem, “Darryl Strawberry”. Surprisingly enough, the walls did not come tumbling down…
After burning a few calories on stage, it’s time for Moo to cool off under the night sky and face the cameras once more for a few good words. We get into it about being a regular college kid who happens to have his own music videos on the web and the values that come from growing up in a traditional Nigerian household. At night’s end, I’ve got my mind set on the banana pudding our crew video shooter Vinny Picone smuggled to the set, compliments of his Mom. Epic win!! All I can say is Jen Diaz’ rice pudding (refer to EP06) has a new rival… Do I see a pudding challenge in the future? Hmmmm…stay / Written by: Devin “Pan” Barrett
