It’s not a fit night out for man or beast, but on this relentlessly rainy evening, we’ve invited Brooklyn transplants Greg Walters and Cason Kelly to take shelter from the elements and get a little experimental with sounds. Together, the fellows are known as Tiny Victories, and they have humbly obliged. We’re missing our trusty show director Tone for this outing, as he had to put in some work overseas, so we’re winging it in the absence of the maestro. Don’t worry Tone, we got this…
The charm of Tiny Victories rests not only in their sensory overload of a stage show, or poignantly penned song lyrics, but in the welcoming personalities of the gentlemen themselves. The night’s attendees couldn’t help but reciprocate the energy being offered up by these two ministers of sound. Manipulating every manner of gadgetry and live drums, Tiny Victories skillfully layered their electro-pop beatscapes and sampled sounds from the crowd to incorporate into their set. The highlight of the night was when they re-worked a version of Happy Birthday for our very own crew cheerleader Sappy (Happy Birthday Sappy!!!) using the sampled voices of audience members. I’d say that’s every bit as sweet as a cake with candles, and I think Sappy would agree…
After the set, the rain continues to pour outside, as do the drinks inside. Our Loft regulars hang out for a bit, getting acquainted with the newbies while the storm passes over. The good vibes are contagious, but alas, all good things must come to an end. Time for the party people to file out into the night and greet the next lurk, wherever it is to be found. We’re just gonna hang out and catch fade with these shawarmas and falafels, as usual. Catch you all next time. This is Live At The Loft…
