LOFT HISTORY
=======================================================================
From what the locals have told us, during the late 1800′s and upto the late 1920′s, “The Loft” was used as a newspaper storage warehouse. We’ve scoured the internet for more information but have been unable to locate any more detailed historical nuggets about the warehouse during this time period. However, we do know that it was abandoned during the 30′s-60′s and then converted into a residential/commercial property sometime in the early 70′s. It was at this time that the spiral staircase replaced the freight elevator, the sky lights were installed and the loading dock was replaced by windows. At some point during the 80′s there was a web hosting company operating in the area downstairs and after that it was home to a gang of college kids attending Stevens Technical Institute. For roughly 5-6 years prior to us moving in, the Loft was once again abandoned and sustained heavy water damage from leaks in the roof. On a good rainy day, there are 5-10 buckets spread across the floor of the upstairs section catching water droplets.
These days, The Loft has become a hang-out for all sorts of artists, musicians and everyday kinds of people.

The Loft is located in Hoboken, NJ. While many of our friends in the five boroughs think this is light years away, Hoboken is actually very close to NYC. It’s located right in between the Holland and Lincoln tunnels and PATH trains run on time 24/7 x 365. You can also take the NJ Transit Bus #126 from Port Authority Terminal to the SIXTH Street stop. This lets you out on Washington Street and from there it’s a 8-10 minute walk.
MASS TRANSIT:
PATH Train stations are located on 34th street under the Manhattan Mall, 23rd and 6th avenue, 14th and 6th avenue, 9th and 6th avenue, Christopher Street and Hudson and at the World Trade Center. There are several PATH trains but the one you want will have an HOB over the doors and is indicated with bright blue lights at the front and rear of the train. Take the train to the last stop – you will see large “H” markings when you pull into the terminal which means you’re in the right place.
Once you’ve ascended to ground level, you have two options to get you to the Loft. You can either grab a $5 taxi (yes, they take multiple passengers and no, you should never pay more than $5) or hit the pavement. The walk to the Loft takes anywhere from 8-12 minutes depending on how fast you walk.
Below is a map.
CAR:
If you plan on driving, we highly recommend you use a parking lot. Parking in Hoboken is very difficult on Friday nights. There are many parking lots but the Sylvan Jefferson Garage is the closest. It is located between 8th and 9th street on Jefferson (800 Jefferson Street).
Address:
517 Jefferson Street
Between FIFTH and SIXTH street
