Live At The Loft, Episode 10…has a nice ring to it, huh? That’s right, we’ve reached our 10th time out, and we’re intent on making each episode feel like the 1st time. For this momentous occasion we’ve called upon experimental indie band Monogold to soothe us into these dog days of summer. In the midst of a heatwave, we’ve upped the Loft BTUs with the installation of a spankin’ new air conditioner, but with music-lovers moving about in a packed house, we expect some good ol’ body heat activation. And, bodies will indeed be in motion…
Monogold brings a casual kind of cool to the set. With their latest release, The Softest Glow, the trio creates this atmospheric sound, recalling a primal time when birds, bees, and wind through the trees were the preferred musical influences. Still, they’re distinctly New York, and their sound is equally shaped by cityscapes.
Playing to a most bodacious crowd, the Monogold boys keep things alive, song after song, right through to the much appreciated double-encore treatment. I see many new faces in the vicinity tonight, and I’ve yet to spot one that doesn’t look pleased with the night’s proceedings. What more could we ask for?
LIVE PERFORMANCE – “2′s or 4′s”
LIVE PERFORMANCE – “Spirit Or Something”
After the set, invitees are all about chumming it up, plotting strategies to get some cutie’s contact info, and waiting for the night to really get ripe. We still have one last piece of business though…our curbside chat with the band, of course. We exchange thoughts on meeting artists we perhaps once looked up to, musical references, making ends meet, and the never ending debate of art versus commerce. And that’s 10 in the bag, folks. Thanks for sticking around thus far. Do stay tuned for the further adventures of this motley little crew. This is Live At The Loft…
