And the party continues…Live At The Loft is back for another dust-up with Episode 11. This go-round, we’ve got DC’s own golden girl Muhsinah finessing the microphone. In case you haven’t noticed, we’ve dressed up the Loft a bit with a vintage wooden drum kit and a newly donated standing floor lamp to add to the ambiance. It seems the lady of the evening has hit rush-hour traffic on her way to NJ, so we’re entertaining ourselves in lieu of an early soundcheck. Once Muhsinah and the band arrive, it’ll be time to make that magic…
LIVE PERFORMANCE 02/02 – “ZOMBIE” (COVER)
LIVE PERFORMANCE 01/02 – “STOP”
When she’s not touring as a member of Common’s band, or perfecting her chord progressions on the keyboard, Muhsinah is singing her heart out over beat patterns any Dilla fan would appreciate. The songstress is much more than a pretty voice however, and she proves it with her latest double EP “Gone”, which she wrote, composed, arranged, produced, recorded, and mixed on her own. That’s saying something! During the show, she displays her mastery of synths on the moog for some cuts from the EP and shows the handle of a classically trained pianist with a few song covers that bring tears to eyes. By the end of it all, the room is a chorus of voices in near perfect harmony, singing along to familiar lyrics.
After the show wraps, it’s back to the social comfort zone. Back and forth banter, feet kicked up and sunken in sofas are the scene while the music plays on. Eventually the chatter dies down and cabbies start arriving to the block for pick-ups. Not a bad night’s work. Not bad at all. See you at the next show, same time same place. This is Live At The Loft…
